After School Enrichment Program

posted Oct 16, 2012, 11:19 AM by Finnitta Joshua

We begin our After School Enrichment Program on Monday afternoon, October 22, 2012.  We are accepting students from grades K-6.

The areas covered will be:  Homework, every afternoon, Reading, Writing, and Math.  In addition, Technology will be taught two afternoons per week.

The classes will run on Monday through Thursday, beginning at 3:15 p.m. and ending at 5:15 p.m.  Please make proper arrangements to have your child picked up by 5:30 p.m.  Because of the late start of our After School program, we expect the classes to last until May 2013.

This program requires regularity, punctuality, and diligence on the part of the students.  We expect students to conduct themselves appropriately.  Students not attending the After School program must be picked up at the regular time.

posted May 30, 2012, 6:59 AM by Finnitta Joshua   [ updated Oct 16, 2012, 10:02 AM ]

I am pleased to inform you that the School Board has approved the offer by Mrs. Janice Lake to provide and sell, breakfast and lunch, at the school's cafeteria, beginning Monday, October 15, 2012.  At this point it is a fill-in measure until we know whether help will come from the government's lunch program.  You will be informed accordingly.

Only vegetarian food will be served .  However, if your child(ren) have any food allergies, do let us know.  The cost of breakfast  will be $2.00.  Lunch will be $4.00.  Mrs. Lake is willing to make special arrangements with parents who have more than one child attending the school.  A menu for both breakfast and lunch will be available shortly.

Thank you for your co-operation and support in this matter.  Having an ordered lunch program does contribute to good order and the proper functioning of our school!

Additionally, for all parents that have paid the technology fee for use of the Edline service, your login codes are currently available.  To receive your login information, please call or stop by the office in person, as this information will not be released to the students.

After you receive your login information you can access the service by visiting www.edline.net.

Updated Uniform Policy

posted Aug 8, 2011, 9:12 AM by Finnitta Joshua

Uniforms

The dress code for the St. Thomas/St. John Seventh-day Adventist School exists to enhance the appearance of the student body and promote self-esteem and pride in performance.  Parents and students may not always agree with the standards of the school, but cooperation in this matter is necessary if a student is to remain in school.  The administration believes that “a person’s character is judged by his style of dress.  A refined taste, a cultivated mind, will be revealed in the choice of simple and appropriate attire.”  Education p.248.

Modesty and appropriateness of attire are ideals to strive after.  Neatness in dress, personal cleanliness and good grooming are characteristics of Seventh-day Adventists and should be so of students attending an Adventist institution.  Students are expected to change their uniforms frequently or have them neat and clean at all times.  The design of the school uniform and the choice of material recommended satisfy, in our opinion, the standard aimed at.

Students attending this school are required to be in uniform always except in extenuating circumstances which must be explained in writing and presented to the administration.

Physical Education Shoes

The required Physical Education (PE) uniform consists of (1) St. Thomas/St. John Seventh-day Adventist School  PE Gym shorts; (2) St. Thomas/St. John Seventh-day Adventist School  PE T-shirt; and (3) tennis shoes (sneakers).  The gym pants and t-shirts are available for sale at the school’s Business Office.

Junior High and High school students must bring P.E shoes to school on the day of P.E., and may wear them only for that period and not to other classes.  Elementary school students are allowed to wear P.E. shoes throughout the day(s) on the day of P.E. class.
